More Incentive for Over Fishing?

Just wanted to post this headline that I saw today. Don't really know if this is good news for fishermen, but likely bad news for the fish!

I'm not sure you can read much into the yearly 1st bluefin purchase in Tokyo - folks were getting about 10-15$/lb for their market bluefin this fall I didn't hear of anyone getting >20$/lb - maybe the stickboats got more? I'm more interested in what happened in the Mediterranean now that the Qadaffis stopped fishing.. did shutting the Libyans down actually make a difference or did the French/Italian/Albanian fleets step in to fill the void - anyone know??

That price has nothing to do with the actual value of bluefin and it is the result of a marketing scam. Bluefin are still averaging the same prices they always do- this year right around $10 per pound. Do not be fooled into thinking this expensive single fish each year has anything to do with reality.
