Dunno about you, but waking up to zero temperatures this morning started the little wheel in my head turning:
"Dare I dream of ice fishing this weekend?"
So I thought I'd issue the annual reminder about saving our collective skins.
First off, the annual
ice-thickness reminder
Second, a good FAQ on
ice fishing safety
And finally, a response by Bill Downing to the question I once asked:
"How long does it take for safe ice to form?"
Bottom line in my opinion:
1. I don't think Cape ice is safe yet.
2. If I went to find out, I'd start on a very shallow beach area and drill some test holes
3. Calling the local fire department is an idea.
4. If it isn't six inches thick I don't want to be on it.
