Thumbs up Weir River Estuary Clean up 4/25- Get Involved!!!

Hey Guys-(and Gals)

I hope it is ok to post this here. On Saturday April 25th from 10am-Noon, there will be a Weir River Estuary clean up sponsored by the Weir River Watershed Association proceded by a picnic at Gun Rock Playground. All of the details are below. The smelt have laid eggs at the base of the dam, so it will require some care so as not to disturb those areas. I figure it is in everyone's interest to keep this area as clean as possible to allow fish easy access to the ladder and Foundry Pond which is the estuary where the herring and smelt spawn. I am friends with one of the three people who will be helping to spearhead this effort. His name is Bill Sarni and aside from being a member of the Weir River Watershed Association and The Weir River Estuary Park Committee, he has recently been appointed as a biological technician to attempt to gauge the number of fish making their way up the ladder. He is also a big fisherman and a very good guy. Bill is also a renowned duck decoy carver for those hunter/fisherman out there who might find that of interest. I thought with the number of conservation minded folks on this board, perhaps we could boost the number of participants to help with the cleanup AND boost awareness of this tremendous natural resource and the importance of preserving it. I hope you are able to join Bill and myself in this effort. Feel free to PM me or post any questions you have and I will do my best to get answers.

Bring your waders, gloves, and appropriate clothing to do some grunt work on April 25th!! I look forward to meeting some fellow RT'ers.
