Here's what I'd try - Plenty of good fishing around state beach / OB, bones on the incoming AM if you're lucky. Why not just take the ferry to OB instead of VH?

No problem with yak on cart. SSA charges you for a bicycle. You can launch at VH on nice sandy beach to west of dock at bus turnaround. Easy breezy walk off and jump in. Fishing is better off OB east to State Beach. You'll have to do a scramble down the sea wall across some rocks to the beach to launch the rig. Low tide would probably be better. Fish mill around the OB dock all season. If your lucky the bones will be pounding bait against the pilings. Sunrise to mid- morning is best. Tashmoo is a great, easy launch (if you have a car to get the rigs there)with bones close to shore as well, less clowns than state beach. Go for the outgoing tide at both. Listen to Kelso about the SW kicking up around GH to Squibby. Would not want to be caught around the bend in a SW blow. Dogfish was fishing well, but the herring have thinned. Good luck.

OB for sure. Once you walk off the ferry there is a very small beach to the right of the terminal exit. Launch there and work your way down to State Beach and into Senge Pond vis little bridge too

Thank you all for the advice. We ended up on the ferry to vineyard haven since the OB ferry wasn't until 9:30. Had a great day fished from west chop down to state beach. Picked up a bunch of 3-5lb blues on sandeel patterns, chased what I think were bonito at the OB ferry terminal for a couple of hours and failed to hook-up despite 2 good shots.
