I am not understanding how this is done, the landing of the fish part. I do not see how a decent size fish would ever get tired from pulling around a kayak. I have had 20 pound stripers pull me around. A 187 pound BFT would barely notice the kayak. Did he just reel himself up to the fish fully green and then hit it with a harpoon and let it bleed to death? Not very sporting if you ask me.

3 hour battle.

That is probably pretty quick, because there is probably only 10 lbs pressure until you get the fish vertical. You can put some pressure when you get the fish straight down, but it isn't like what you would do in a boat.
