11/6/09 Gulf of Mexico TUNNY IN THE WIND !

Sick,

windy, rough, northeast blow going on down here so the inshore fishing is a little difficult around low tide right now. I mean low tide this morning. When we drove out of little pass and looked accross the flat inside little gasparilla it was bone dry. Any Snook and Reds that stayed on that flat this morning are dead. I am sure the backcountry was completely dry for over an hour this morning. We headed out into the gulf in the big boat and tore the ass out of the tunny. It was a bit challenging with the wind, but I only broke one rod and smashed into the T-top twice..

The surface feeds in the rough water were unbelievable. They were running the bait down the waves and charging on the surface turning the water white for hours. We brought the 14 weight for the blacktips but we never really had any that stayed around. We saw a couple chasing down the tunny and also saw one go airborn right in the middle of a spanish mac blitz but never really saw them hanging out...

Alby madness -Venice

The alby fishing within a mile of the Venice inlet has been nothing short of spectacular. We have landed 49 fish in 5 days, better than I have ever done in the Cape. The average fish are also bigger. The feeding frenzies are hard to believe, I've seen other peoples videos of some awesome action, but it 's always better to see it yourself. In the past 6 years I think I have caught about 6 albies, so this is amazing. With any luck, the big jack crevalles will show up next. With a season like this, I can so no reason to ever think about making the 800 mile trek back to Harkers.

Uhhhgggg...

Well you asked for it. Yesterday we got covered up with schools of Jacks and Bluefish. I found several school of Albies in the morning, but they were very hard to find in the afternoon.... We got some crazy late schools of Tarpon heading south coming through our area as well right now. Water temps out in the gulf dropped to 68.
