Florida Keys Surfcasting

The missus and I will be heading to the Keys for ten days in early May for the first time in about ten years. We have a line on some charters, but I was wondering if it would be worth it for us to bring some spinning rods and gear for local surfcasting.

We will be staying in Key West, but will be visting up through all the keys, so any good general locations would be helpful.

My website www.threebone.com has the most do it yourself roadside flats fishing information that I know of. It mostly is about how and where to catch bonefish; so the novice flats angler can have a little more confidence, as flats fishing is very difficult. There are web pages providing photos, fishing reports, fishing school, fishing Blog, and even a Humor (clean) blog/short stories about living in the Keys. It is also very hard to get flats information from anyone; so I hope this helps. Enjoy!

Mark - great website. We'll be down in Marathon late April/early May and I was wondering about just this. We're planning on a day at Bahia Honda so the 9wt will be making the journey down south with me.

Perfect. There is great visibility for flats fishing on the Atlantic Side of Bahia Honda. The flat out from the entrance shack is good at an low incoming tide then go to the other end toward Miami of BH Atantic side, when water gets deep and wade the shoreline and look into the deeper water along the shore. Bahia Honda is good because of more than a mile of flats to wade. good luck

Thanks for the info. To be honest, I'm a little skittish about wading too far out on slats that I am not familiar with. But I will take you info and scope it out at lowest tide and decide from there.
