Eastham/Sunken Meadow

hey all,

We rented a house on the beach in Eastham just South of Sunken Meadow. Middle of July. Looks petty shallow. Any chance of getting my 22'er up to the beach, or at least close? Any ramps nearby? Anything to fish for up in the river? we've got a canoe also. I don't have a chart of the area but I am going to get one. Local knowledge is always best. It would be great to be able to wade out, hop on and head into the bay for some fishing.

Sunken Meadow is about the best spot I know for bluefish, esp. in July. Drift a little in (or out depending on tide) from the big rock on your left as you face shore, the one I took my lower unit out at high tide circa 1987. Early in the year Sunken Meadow is a hot spot for bass. I always launched at Wellfleet Harbor, about a ten-minute ride away.

While you might find you can get near the beach at high tide, the water gets very shallow at low tide. At low tide you can walk 1/2 mile out in places.

I have given it some thought about that beach rather than going to Chatham/Monomoy. Just hope not to get a strong S.W. wind. Maybe this will be the year I go....little bit of a longer ride from Boston.
