South Beach, Chatham report
Just returned from four days fishing at Chatham. Things were a little slow. We finally saw a lot of fish in the surf on 6/10 (Sat.) and managed to hook a few nice (30"+) fish. We were bitten off by bluefish about once each day, and there were a good number of small blues around late in the incoming tide far down the inside of South Beach. One thing about the fishing was very different for us this year (our 6th spring trip to Chatham): we caught very few fish at night on the inside flats. We usually fish our way back up to the Chatham light late in the evening (from about 9 p.m. to as late as 1 a.m.) with snake flies and poppers, and have fun with the schoolies. This year, they just didn't seem to be there. We also usually get a couple of fish in the 38"-40" range in the surf. This year, we couldn't fool one over 32".
