Striper fishing and saw shark while wading

Was flyfishing for stripers in Old Lyme CT. Saw a 4-5 ft shark cruise by in about 3.5 ft of water. This is a first for me. Needless to say this makes me a bit nervous about wading. This was not a sand shark. Does anyone know what species of sharks are most common to CT shoreline?

It was probably a Blue Shark. There are tons of them in these waters.

How dangerous are blue sharks?

RE: Striper fishing and saw shark while wading

More than likely what you saw was a Brown shark, not a Bluedog. Blues are an offshroe species which rarely venture close to shore in New England, whereas Browns are a coastal species and a ****LOAD of fun on the fly. Not particularly dangerous, but they'll take a swipe at you if you step on one...

It's all relative. Kind of like how dangerous is a speeding bullet!

They won't bother you unless you really startle them.
