Advice for fly fishing at Stella Maris, Long Island?

Any advice for fishing around Stella Maris in Long Island? I'll be there in late December. Flies? Wading flats near the resort? Any other type if fishing worth trying?

RE: Advice for fly fishing at Stella Maris, Long Island?

I haven't fished Stella Maris, but I spent a week in the middle of the island at Dead Man's Cay, Long Island. Caught about 80 bones, several baraccuda, 6 reef sharks and many jacks. There is a good Article in Salt Water Sportsman Magazine by Brownlee about fishing off shore from Stella Maris and Long Island in the September or October issue.

We found that the fly pattern didn't make much difference (Gotchas, Charleys and even small Clousers clipped up to the hook) but the loved the color orange and pink, we caught them wading and from a 16' flats skiff. The guides are very knowledgable

There are dolphin, wahoo & billfish offshore. Just be careful the sharks will attack and eat just about everything you bring up.

The fishing, weather and people down there are terriffic. I saw colors down there that I never imagined existed. Enjoy!
