Thanks in advance

RE: Wind

Go to weather.com, boat and beach report for starters.
It is a real good idea for all boaters and fisherman
to learn some basic weather forcasting from national maps, etc. Consider a seamanship course this winter. Best wishes.

RE: Wind

Someone posted this link a while back. I can't vouch for its accuracy, but it looks good!

RE: Wind

Try this site. It is a way to access buoy data. for example off of gloucester or Boston light ship. It gives you fairly recent data (say one or two hours);

Lets be careful out there

RE: Wind

I Second Mike comment, I've got that link (bouy 44013 - Boston)in an "active window" on my windows desktop that refreshes hourly. It's a must have data for a smaller - or any - boat.

You can also get Wave Height, Water temp and other cool info such as graphs of wind speed for th last 24 hours like this:

Are we all getting bored early this season??

Tight lines,

adam

RE: Wind

How do you set it up as an "active window"? I would be interested in doing that.

thanks

RE: Wind

In addition to the sites posted, I also use this one:

http://www.wunderground.com/US/MA/Boston.html

Click on the link near the bottom of the page for "Forecast Graph".

I can't speak for others, but I've found most forecasts to be accurate to just plus or minus 5 mph. The sea breeze effects are also tough to predict. I usually check all the forecasts just to get a consensus.

RE: Wind

http://www.navcenter.com/eastcoast.html will give you a three day prediction on wind direction and speed. I've found it to be very accurate

RE: Wind - Case in point

So much for the forecasts. This morning's forecast was for 5-7 mph winds. I came in at 8:15 and the wind was blowing at 14 mph with whitecaps forming.

RE: Wind - Active Desktop

Right click on your desktop and select "properties"

Select the "web" tab and enable the "view my desktop as a web page"

Insert the URL of the page you want to view..

In my post it was the Boston Bouy at:

http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/plot_param.phtml?$station=44013$wspd

There are all kinds of options you can play with.

good luck

adam
