Help a Yank please.......

I will be in Islamorada at the end of june (2001) for 4 days, staying at either Cheeca or Pelican Cove, I want to fish as much as possible, well as much as the wife will tolerate... need much info from locals or past visitors with knowledge. What species will be on the flats and in the back country? where can I hook up with a good local guide, where can I fish from the beach with my son, and what tackle should I use from the beach. I want to fly fish exclusivly when chatering but will have to take my son out a few times using spin gear either on a head boat or from shore. I know from past viewings of the board that alot of transient's and tourist ask for info.... it seems that alot go unanswered, please help, I only get to fish outside of New England once a year, and want to make the most of this trip.. Thanks in advance! Dorado_1@msn.com

RE: Islamorado - one of my favorite places

I really can't give any personal recommendations, but click on this: http://www.flkinfo.com/Florida-Keys-fishing-charters.htm
Dig through it, and hopefully you'll find something you're looking for.

RE: Help a Yank please.......

I fish Islamorada all the time, and I have some good news and some not so good news. First the bad, fishing from shore is a waste of time, been there done that. If you are only there for a short itme, take advantage of it and hire a guide. June is a great ime of the year to be down there, especially if you want to fish and please the wife.

The water on the flats is very warm and most of your flats fishing for bonefish will be early, before the sun heats up the water too much. So you can fish early and do the wife thing in the middle of the day. Good ideas if you ever want to be allow to take her to a fishing destination agian in this lifetime.

Also, there will most likely be some of the big Tarpon aroung and a little sunset Tarpon trip is just what the doctor ordered. This is my personal favorite.

My guide is a wonderful guy and has a fabulous disposition for both you and your son. I have often recommended him and have always had great responses to the clients after fishing with him.

Give him a call, it will be the best money and time you will ever spend on the water. Kenny Knudsen 305 664-9281
