FF'ing in Puerto Vallarta

Does anyone know of any fly fishing opportunities on the West Coast of Mexico, in or near Puerto Vallarta? Would prefer bonefishing if possible. Do you know any good guides in the area? Thanks. Andrew

Interesting, I logged on this site for exactly the same reason. I plan to be in Puerto Vallarta Feb 19-25 and have only come up with offshore charter boats..Cpt Pete...who claims to accomodate fly fishermen. I'll continue my search and notify you if successful in finding a flyfishing guide for inshore or offshore.

RE: FF'ing in Puerto Vallarta

Spent 2 weeks in and Around PV last february, did not find any shallow flats to fish but went up to a tiny village on a bay call Chacala it's North of PV about 40 Km. There is no guide service anywhere I found that knows anything about fly fishing. I went out with an American fellow who was there with a 20 foot panga and we trolled around until we found a school of "Sierra" (Mackeral). Then would cast to that area, caught a number of 3 to 5 pound mackeral on 400 gr. sink tip with clouser minnows. Its a great little village and there are very good sea food restuarants on the beach that will cook up you fish. If you like rustic places to stay hang around there for a few days and stay in the small pension at the harbour.

RE: FF'ing in Puerto Vallarta

Andrew, it is a mostly a boat situation. There are no flats or bonefish that I know about on the west coast or Baja. It is best if you get out of the bay that PV sits on and travel north or south, PV is a big city and the waters are pretty worked over. You can bus north or south very easily or drive if you have a car. The prices will go down and the pace will be slower and more family oriented. If you have to stay in PV, you can rent a panga but they usually run a ways to get to better fishing. Depending on the time of the year you can find almost any kind of fish. Bonito, tuna, durado, sails, jacks, mackerel, marlin, to name a few. If you have to fish from shore, try dawn or dark......Jim
