Anguilla

Would love any information regarding the inshore fishing in Anguilla, especially any flats to wade for bonefish or guides to hire for snook & tarpon. I'll be there for a week at the end of December. Thanks.

i hope i don't disappoint you. back several years ago,my wife and i sent a month on anguilla. i searched high, and low, and found really not much to fish for. there are no bonefish guides. very typical of many caribbean islands, the waters are simply.....fished out.

ironically, a few locals befriended (felt sorry for ) me. and took me out night fishing in an area called "sandy ground." we caught some sprat with a throw net, and went bottom fishing out on the local dock. well.....guess what we caught?
bonefish! all about 3-5 pounds, on the bottom. not very sporting, but there were bones around.

there are some flats in an area called "the forest" behind the airport. there is an area behind a resturant called the Straw Hat.
try this place, food is world class. rated as one of the 50 best in the world. try the local crayfish gilled, or grouper in vanilla sauce! Mmmmmm
check out an area to the west of the straw hat. there are some flats there, however small. i never saw any fish, but they looked promising.

hey, you're going to a great place even if there is no fishing. take the ferry out of blowing point, and go over to st. martin for the day, eat some french food and wine.
anguilla is a lovely island. wonderful people, no crime, beautuful beaches.

Thanks for your post regarding Anguilla. I'm a little bummed there's no fishing to speak of, but I guess I'll just have to get by with a week of eating & drinking. A Rumcation.

To answer your question - my brother has rented a house somewhere on the island - don't know where it is.

Thanks again for helping me out. I'm having saliva management issues just thinking about the grouper in vanilla sauce.

I'm disappointed to hear that there isn't much opportunity to fish in Anguilla. My gf and I have decided to go and I was all ready to buy my first bone rod but it looks like I'm a bone-head for not checking before booking the flight. I'm sure we'll still have a great time as Anguilla sounds pretty fantastic.

We're trying to figure out where to stay--anyone have any input on the Frangipani Beach Club?

I don't know if you have gone already but I caught some great lady fish in some of the mangrove lagoons and had great fun chasing around schools of little jacks marauding tiny glass minnows. Let me know if you have not gone yet. Derek
