Fishing In Mexico

Hi everyone,

I'm going to Mexico in January 1st - 15th to the acapulco and ixtapa area. I've been to acapulco many times and tried the the deep sailfish there. I'm more interested in light tackle stuff like snapper, wahoo, etc.

I'm bringing two St Croix rods:
o a 7' spinning rod w/10-20 lb line
o a 8' 6" casting rod w/14-20 lb line

The Ixtapa area will be new to me but it looks promising from what I've found on the net so far.

Does anyone have any helpfuls advice: tackle, lures, rigging, locations, guides, etc?

I'll update this when I get back and let everyone know what I found.

Thanks,

Joe

I am going to Acapulco in late December. I will probably do a Charter but am also wondering if I should bring my Fly rod for shore, pier, shallows fishing for small game fish. Do you know of specific locations? May aslo consider a local guide.

Thanks, Bill

Bill- I would definitely bring a 7-8 weight fly rod. There really are many shore opportunities- mostly jacks, snappers but maybe you can find a Roosterfish (gallo). Look around estuaries. A local guide with a panga can present many opportunities- including some blue water as it is very close. Good dorado fishing in Dec around any floater.
But- don't forget a license if you are going to fish solo. They are available by contacting the Mexican Fisheries office, 2550 5th Ave., Suite 101, San Diego, CA; (619) 233-6956
Buena Pesca (gracias Marco).
