Freeport, Grand Bahama Guides

Does anyone know of any boat or shore guides that are independent of the "Hotel Bonefish Package System" for the West End of Freeport, Grand Bahama? Is it safe and practical to rent a car and wade on my own?

RE: Freeport, Grand Bahama Guides

I stayed in lucaya a couple years ago, which is right down the street from freeport, and used North Riding Point Club. One way of getting in touch with them is to contact Angler Adventures 800-628-1447. Another in lucaya is Pelican Bay, again you can contact Angler Adventures. Or look up their number and call either when you get down there. Also try finding spots on your own. I caught jacks, snappers etc from the beach in the lucaya area. I saw one bone, but have a feeling there is more than one bone crusing those touristy areas.
good luck

Lew,
The Pinder operation is the best on the Island - you can charter them independently. The Island is best fished by boat, however if you are traveling down the main highway toward the West End as you get near the very end of the Island - keep your eyes peeled toward the brush on the East side of the the road - it is a little thick but it opens up onto a huge sand and marl type flat that is very productive on an incoming tide.

RE: Freeport, Grand Bahama Guides

Mike,
Thanks for the reply. By the "Pinder operation", I believe you mean the guides that left Deepwater Cay Club and formed Grand Bahama Bonefishing. The only info I have found on them is that they book thru the Grand Lucayan Resort and fish the northwest end from Queens Cove.
My story goes something like this: My wife is a nonfisher and I am not willing to pay the $2500 per person double occupancy plus air fare ad infinitum to get blown out for a week so we booked an airline package at the Pelican Bay Hotel for a week. They and their booking agent have been silent except for the standard package quote.
There seems to be little info on the internet except the standard package pricing. I will be there from April 26 to May 3 with a rising tide in the morning. Hopefully there will be more info available in the phone book when I get there.

Thanks Again,
Lew
