Cuba Guardalavaca --- Report
Returned from Costa Verde hotel 10 miles west of Guardalavaca this week. This hotel like most round the area is in a large bay sheltered by coral reefs across the mouth and rocky shores to each side. I fished mainly dusk and dawn and caught pargoe, needlefish, small rock fish, angel fish and various small fast moving pelagics. Biggest fish about 2lb. although I did see fish up to 6lb. I lost a big fish one night fishing 6 inch prawn bait ledgered off the beach.
Pukka sportfishing boats with outriggers, penn tackle etc. are available locally us$250 for 4 anglers. Cuda, marlin,wahoo and dorado are their targets, they dont mind if you fly fish.
For a bit of fun take a hotel pedalo off the beach and fish the reef. The blue ones have a casting platform at the back to make a flats skiff envious!
Bahia Naranjo where the dolphinarium is ,is skirted by mangroves and looks decidedly snooky. Closest resort to this is Playa Esmerelda.
In short , a very good family holiday with fair fishing.
