RE: WORCESTER SHOW...anyone going?
Bob,
Last year, I got a great deal on a 10wt at the Worcester show. There were other deals as well. Not sure what this is worth, but Worcester was the first show last year. (before Marlboro and Wilmington);
I personally liked it better than Marlboro last year. I am not a flyfish only person (gasp) so it is nice to see other gear, plus the casting pond was less crowded.
I plan to be there Sunday morning.
Have fun
Kirk

RE: WORCESTER SHOW...anyone going?
I've gotten some spinning gear for 20-30 % off at the Worcester show, but you gotta scrounge. Sometimes, vendors will drop their prices even more at the very end of the show (Sunday) just to get rid of the stuff so they don't have to haul it back. As for fly gear, have only bought lines and leaders at the show, and there wasn't much of a price break. Of course, Spag's is right around the corner and may be worth a look, although I don't know if they carry fly gear.
I'll be there Thursday afternoon.

RE: WORCESTER -just a test
I got a 15% discount on a St. Croix Tidemaster spinning rod last year at the Worcester show. This show gets terribly crowded but is a welcome cabin fever break. I'll be there Sunday.
Went to Spag's a couple of weeks ago......not very much in the way of fly gear. However, as was mentioned before, they have a decent selection of Gibbs' at good prices

Dave,
How do you like the TideMaster series? I'm thinking getting either that or a Ben Doerr medium duty saltwater spin rod.

Make sure you talk to BobD at RT sponsor Blue Northern's booth when you go. There was a 5-pc (extra tip = 6pc) Sage SP demo that I have been drooling over but my in a moment of clarity I decided to keep my marriage. ;-)

RE: WORCESTER -just a test
Bill,
I looked at both the TM and BD series last year and ended up picking up one of each. Got the 8' TM and a 8'6" BD. I like them both. Used them very hard. The Cork taped handle on the BD loosened up on me but that was my fault (no proper holders on the rocks) but St.Croix repaired it even after I explained how I damaged it. This year I'm going to look at the new 3pc. TM travel rods. An 8'er is damn hard to get on a plane:-).
Dave, who was giving discounts? The St. Croix people werent even selling their product, only demo'ing them.

RE: WORCESTER -just a test
Bill, I like the 7'6" Tidemaster a lot! The reel seat broke after the spring schoolie swarm, sent it back to St. C, they repaired it NC. It survived albie season just fine. I'm not one for spending top dollar on gear. I, the boat and the salt are just too rough on stuff to justify spending a ton of money but for ~$100, this rod is certainly worth it. I looked at the Doerr's but just couldn't deal with the funky handles. Too traditional I guess. I think I got the medium action Tidemaster which is great for tossing metal at albies. If you're going to be fishing bucktail jigs for schoolies I would go with the next one up in terms of backbone.
Paul, I think you steered me toward St. Croix in a BBS5 thread about this time last year???? Yea, at the '99 Worcester show St. C was only demoing but there was a tackle shop on the floor that had a pretty good selection. Of course, given that that was more than 10 minutes ago, there's no way I will remember the name of the shop. The booths are pretty much the same from year to year so keep an eye out this year. Dave.

Bill,
I've been using a St. Croix Tidemaster TS76MF for two seasons. Love the rod! No complaints!!

RE: WORCESTER SHOW...anyone going?
Unfortunately, unlike the fly fishing shows, Blue Northern will only have a small booth which we acquired at the last minute. We are bringing a sample of all the stuff available at the shop. But unlike the fly shows we will not be selling. It is more of an info booth, but we will be holding a raffle. So please stop by the booth fill out the card and take a chance on a black powder rifle, fresh or saltwater spinning gear or fresh/saltwater fly fishining outfit. All of which will be on display. I will only be there for the day on friday. But please stop by and say hi and please tell them your from Reel-Time.

I have two of the Tidemaster Rods and love them. They (8' 1pc Heavy)have been used 2 years pretty hard and have held up with no problems. A buddy has the MH model and that is great for throwing smaller plastics and has a nice sensitive tip. The only problem I have heard is another friend that bought the heavier model (XHeavy) and the cork at the end of the handle came off - he will either repair it, or send it in. Be sure to check out Spags for them, they had a great price on them 2 yrs ago and believe they can order them if not in stock.
