RE: Fly fishing St Martins Is

I am heading there at the end of May and have not found anything online yet re: flyfishing or light tackle fishing in St. Martin. I have seen lots of requests though. I'll let you know what I find.

RE: Fly fishing St Martins Is

go to www.gobeach.com and go onto their msg boards. They have quite an archive of questions asked and aswered, and quite a few fishing reports from what lagoons and bays to go to, etc. Search on fishing, flyfishing, light tackle, etc.

Good luck. Post anything else you find out.

RE: Fly fishing St Martins Is

I was there in early May 1999. I was staying at La Sammana resort, which was located on a long and beautiful sandy beach, interspersed with some rocks and coral. I just walked the beach with my 9wt with an intermediate line casting white clousers. While I didn't fish that much there, in the 1 day I made a semi-serious effort, I caught a nice (10 pund maybe) pampano, which gave me a realy nice fight. I also caught a large needlefish. There are lots of barracuda hanging out, and you never know whats going to swim by. I heard that fishing at night and at dawn might give you the opportunity to catch some larger species of fish that spend the daylight hours in much deeper water, like some members of the tuna family, but I was never able to verify it for myself. My advice is to just take your rod with you to the beach and cast wherever it looks good. Good luck!
