tioga large arbor salt #10

Hello everyone, I just added fly-fishing to my list of ways to enjoy stripers in Connecticut. So far I've bought 8 and 9 weight rods. I can't break the bank too much more than I have. I've seen Tioga reels made by Teton, that look good, are made by a quality (so I'm told) manufacturer, and cost less than $150. Does anyone have any experience with these reels? I'm looking to buy the #10.

RE: tioga large arbor salt #10

I've owned a #8 Tioga for 2 seasons. Use it on a 7wt rod and throw an 8wt line.Used it last spring for bonefish in Exuma. Performed perfectly. Have caught literally 100's of schoolies with it as well. Best money I ever spent on a reel. My other reels are System 2's. They are also a good investment for the money spent. Take'em apart and wash them every time you use'em and they'll treat you well for many seasons. My first reels were inexpensive Medalists. Still have and use'em on occassion. But you've got to be sure to wash them after each outing. But that's part of the drill. The day's not over until rod, reel, and line have been flushed clean with fresh water.rusty hooke
