I learned the value of the clear fly lines on Monomoy last year and now it seems that every mfg has one.

This season I need to buy for my 8 & 9 wts intermediates & floating lines + a Teeney line for the 9 wt. I'm a fan of the Wulff Triangle tapers so I figure I'll try the new clear intermediates but wonder what the consensus is on the Airflo, Cortland, SciAngler & Rio clear floating lines.

What do you guys like/ dislike & what have you heard?

I've tried all of the brands mentioned and I prefer the Airflo by far. IMO it casts better and is less prone to tangling. Can't beat the warranty either. As for the Teeny, I would check out Cortland's Saltwater Quick Decent, which gives better contact with the fly. I'm also a big fan of 3M's Unifom Sink, but find it tangles more often and the coating usually only lasts me one season. sR

While i haven't tried it (yet), the new Airflo depth finder has a five year guarantee against cracking, my number one problem I've had with depth charge/teeny style lines. No word on the tangle factor yet...

I tried the cortland clear in a 7 wt and found that it was a bit limp and sticky when the weather was warmer-about 75+. It worked much better in cooler weather. Good luck.

Any idea who is stocking the clear tip line? I haven't seen it on the market yet, but have heard about it and would like to check it out.

Can you buy direct from Cortland??

Hey All,

I fish the Clear Tip Cortland in 10wt. and I love it, I have the SA
clear tip on order as well (9wt.) (variety is the spice of life);

I think IMVeryHO the floating/Clear Intermediate is the way to go. Proven hard fast coating on the floating section and a stealthy good fishing tip. I got my Cortland from Cabella's I think, and have ordered the SA from Hunters in N.H. (Who BTW take FOREVER to get stuff to you);

FWIW: The Cortland is like 10 bucks cheaper and the SA has I think a 10 foot tip vs. 15 for the Cortland. Another side benefit to the Cortland (for the gearheads is that the belly is longer than the 444sl Saltwater Taper and Rocks for distance.);
Had the 444sl Saltwater Intermediate and found the belly too short...

Thanks to all for the clear tip info. Now all I need to find is a cheap source for SA II spare spools. Between the lines I bought at the show and the clear tip, it looks like I'm gonna need em!
