Did the North wind do it?

As discussed here in the past few weeks, the strong North wind seems to reliably put the fish down no matter how hungry they are getting ready for that long swim. Did anyone brave the spray and tangled lines this weekend? If so, what did you see? Thanks, Bob Weir

I went out with my brother-in-law yesterday. horrible day on the water. even the birds were sitting on the south side of the break walls to get out of the wind. no fish at all.

RE: Did the North wind do it?

Was windsurfing in CCB around corporation beach and sesuit harbor yesterday. There were birds and baitfish everywhere pushed up against the shore by the wind, very distracting. The bait was a mixture of tiny little silverside-looking things and considerably larger bunker type things, all jumping within 30 feet of shore. I think it was mainly blues feeding on them, at least that's the only thing I actually saw come all the way out of the water. Tried tossing a line off the sesuit jetty but the waves were large making it impossible to land fish. Wind made it hard to cast. Hooked into 2 blues (I think) and they both broke off before I could get them to a suitable landing spot. Did not see any bass but they may have been mixed in or just slightly lower in the water column. Tons of bait.

To answer your question, YES and YES. A clue would be definitely take a NAP! in a tree. And you could WATCH the action from on the HILL.

RE: Did the North wind do it?

Went out of Salem on Saturday. The wind was howling about 25. Left Winter Island about 6 AM. Too rough for Marblehead, so headed to Manchester. About 8 AM, birds diving in the wind all over the Beverly shore. Caught about 10 stripers on Clousers and half and halfs ranging from 22 to 28". Went out again this morning (Sat 30). Wind up to about 30-35. No birds, no fish. Stopped into First Light Anglers and nat said that Derek had caught a bunch by Coolodge point until his charter started to get seasick. So I guess they are still arounf in the wind if you get to the right spot.

RE: Did the North wind do it?

It definately did. Nahant this AM had a light breeze (30-40mph?!) and waves over the rocks, four hours before high tide. Impossible to fish. Didn't see any activity in the bay, Point of Pines etc., either. What are the prospects for the upcoming weekm weatherwise?

Fished Watch Hill this afternoon. Did very well 4 bass to
30" and 5 blues to 10lbs. It amazed me how many
people just drive down make 5 or 6 cast then move on.
These fish were not on top but were hitting poppers.

RE: Did the North wind do it?

I fished watch hill and caught too many blues to count. All were from 3-8 pounds. I also saw the guy right next to me take a striper 47" from the point when everyone was going for the blues on the windy side.

RE: Did the North wind do it?

RI was decent. Lots of fish at night off breachways on the outgoing (eels, plugs) and some blitzes off the usual points. I didn't see many large fish taken off the beach though. Thought about Watch Hill light, but am not into the weekend crowd scene there. Only thing I regret was not getting to Napatree, but you can only target so many places!

RE: Did the North wind do it?

YES
I tried my favorite spot at the Great Salt Pond inlet and even the salt pond had huge whitecaps.
No bass, shad or even snappers. So differenbt from two weeks ago.
Hope this weekend quiets down a bit.

RE: Did the North wind do it?

Managed to get some schoolies on Fri eve, Sat morn and Sat dusk. Seemed like there was a half an hour window where they were there. I took these fish perhaps three feet off the shore on the beach. Didn't even wade in. They rejected big flies and Iended up getting them on size 4 clousers. Sunday didn't even bother. Watched the windsurfers going bananas off of the end of PI.

RE: Did the North wind do it?

Hit Scorton Creek and the Canal Saturday dawn and dusk. Nada, but Silversides in the wash at Scorton in the PM. Didn't even try Sunday but did see birds holding/working at the bell off Sesuit around high tide.
