Alewives have arrived

Stopped by the herring run on the nemasket river in middleboro this morning, bunch of alewives moving up. Watched a river otter chasing after them in the shallows pretty funny.

I was there yesterday afternoon and saw nothing, but people were looking ;-). Good to hear the scouts have arrived!

RE: Alewives have arrived

Hi Tim: I spotted an Osprey doing lazy circles above the Presumpscot. The sap is starting to run. I also heard rumors of a 30" striper caught through the ice on some trib of the Kennebec. Have you heard anything about that? It comes from a reputable source in the Mid-coast region of Maine. Barry Woods

No have not heard about that fish, but it's possible I suppose. From what I understand back when the Kennebec had it's original spawning run the commercial smelt fisherman used to get stripers in there quite often.

Do you think the strippers are close behind for an early season?
