airline travel

In about a month I will be flying to South Andros via American Airlines and Bahamasair for some bonefishing. If anyone has taken an airline fishing trip since 9/11, can you tell me which items of fly fishing tackle must be checked and which can be carried on the plane? Thanks

Cool

I have a trip to VZ- Los Roques- booked april 4th through Frontiers; the travel info that they sent me says to be prepared to check everything except clothing. Sometimes they allow Rods/reels on board and sometimes not. If you get to security and they disallow something you will have to start from GO and most likely miss the flight. I guess that a heavy fly reel or stick of graphite could be construed as a weapon by some...who knows.
I'm checking all the tackle.

I've been to the Bahamas twice since 9/11. One trip on U.S. Air and one Delta then Bahamasair. You can no longer carry rods on board. I had no trouble carrying reels or flies. Unless
your carry on is small, Bahamasair is going to make you check it anyway. Call the airlines before you go in case rules have changed. I am working on Andros for my next trip, how bout a report when you get back? Good Luck....Rick
