Ask and you shall receive!.......A Yak Board!
Great to see all the interest in Yak fishing!
West coasters have been doing it for years.
Anyway, My name is Ray, and have been sitting in a wet puddle in my Cobra Fish'nDive now for about 5 years.I fish all up and down the Ma Coast. Nahant and Barnstable Harbor are favorites! I've been talking to friends about "mothershipping" @ Monomy this year. That's lashing the yaks to a power boat, gettin' out there and yak fish the day away using the power boat as home base. Can't wait! Well as you can all see, I've tinkered a bit with my vessel. Looking forward to having you all aboard!
Stripers/Blues beware!

I've toyed with a similar idea for this summer but from the other side of the coin. I have the power boat and was hoping to attrack a yakker or two out to Monomoy and serve as a base.
I'm a canoe man myself but if I found a yak that I could get my butt into and feal comfortable ...who knows

Dang Coof, that is one mean looking kayak. Makes me want to paint my face green and infiltrate some harbor at night with limpet mines. Total battlewagon.

Coof - There is plenty of great fishing on north Monomoy that wouldn't require a Mothership but having one would be pretty sweet. Do you ever do any Cod fishing off Nahant? Egg Island is an easy paddle.
Bob - as usual, all you have to do is say where and when and I'm there You still up for the east side of the island BFT adventure?

Bob P.....yer a Big Guy too!?
Bob,
I'm over 225lbs. I need to get down somehow to 190! However even at my size, I feel quite comfortable in the Cobra F'nD. 36" wide witha 600lb. capacity, it was about my only option to purchase. Sure, it weighs a whopping 55lbs. to start, but I'm not running any races and most fishing is done within 3 miles of launch site. If yer interested, I've got a camp on Peter's Pond and TWO of these yaks are always at the shore!

Bob-Cod fishing by accident off Nahant
Bob,
I gotta confess that my kayak takes a close second to my true love about fishing........Surfcasting from the rough rocks and crashing surf of some of the New England coast. Nahant has some incredible (and incredibly dangerous)rocky cliffs with sheer drop-off to underwater ledges. Guess what.....it's all loaded with COD! Big bright, red ,agressive, ugly and beautiful Cod.....Did I forget to mention the Stripers and Blues that love to hang out there too? We, my buddys and I, flyfish and surfcast from those craggy ankle-busters and are almost always taken by suprise by those aggressive near-shore Cod hittin' surface plugs and Streamers. I've yet to get out to Egg Rock, but often see the large boomers bustin' on it's eastern ledge. MMMMMMM.......

If I was back to 225 I'd feel down right skinny. Went to Cobra site and checked them out. Looks Like I could even take the dog
By the was when I'm on cape, I'm only about 10 min from Peter's pond.

Coof: I baught a Cobra F&D this winter. Since I'm a large guy, the capacity, stability and ease of entry and exit were attractive. Cant' wait to fish with it. Still trying to figure out how to rig it. Yours looks great and like you put a lot of thought and experience into it. Any suggestions you might have for me rigging mine would be appreciated. And Bob - I don't think the dog would be much of a problem. It has a little "jump seat" area in the bow where a passanger could ride. There is also sort of a cargo platform for dive tanks on the stern. The thing looks stable enough to stand on and has a 600 # capacity. Its up to the dog of course. Mine would sooner go for a swim than a ride.

kcsmes.......couple of things........
kcsmes.........
Careful where you mount your paddle hooks....not too far forward. You'd be suprised at how large a gash you can get whakin' into those things at full stride!
Use a floating anchor line. After you've tossed that giant knot over to release your anchor from your yak, MAYBE you'll be able to retrieve it all after you've been pulled 1/2 a mile by that giant Striper!
Add up ALL the weight.........include you, the kayak, food, gear, booze, and all the other bull**** you brought but really don't need.
Multiply by 2 if the wind is up. Divide by 1/8th if you think you're in good shape. Subtract 20% if you're married with kids, add 60lbs if you can't see your car. OK, keep paddling like hell, and hope the keel doesn't wreck the fillets when you flip the yak during the surf landing! Good Luck!
