Yeah, i know this is a flyfishing site, but i'm planning one more whack at one of the outer beaches (ballston or race point), probably this coming thursday nite, and will be surf fishing since my boat was winterized today (gets cold fast here in vermont). i need to know what bait shops will be open on the cape, i figure i'll be leaving VT around 2 pm and should hit sagamore bridge by 7, and i'd like to pick up live eels, sand eels, etc. on the way. Anybody know what will be open? Also, to those who gave me advice on monomoy and my 13 whaler last month, thanks again, it turned into a really fine trip with only a few scary moments on the rip off south monomoy and they wouldn't have even been that scary if my little brother wasn't 6-3 and didn't weigh 300 pounds. i need to get an 18-footer just to be able to take him out.

"One shot" Bait just around the Sagamore roatary toward Scusset Beach about 1/4 mile. Shop is in a strip mall across from Dunkin Donut

Canal Bait and Tackle, located at the base of the hill by the Christmas Tree Shop just over the Sagamore Bridge, is open for business. Bruce knows what he is talking about and gives good advise. His phone number is 508-833-2996.

Two more: Budd's Bait and Maco's both on either side of the Buttermilk Bay channel in Buzzards Bay. I would suggest calling ahead to make sure they are open on a given weeknight, as a lot of these shops cut back hours after Labor Day. for the time being, Budd's is open until 10 PM Friday and Saturday, but I'm not surre about the rest of the week.

Coming from the north around 7 pm? "one shot" will be closed....your best bet will be Canal Bait and Tackle...they are one of the few that stay open late.

Try "first stop" bait on route 28/6 in Wareham (if you come down route 24 and get off on 28 it is before Maco's and Budds).
