Under gunwale rod holders

Have an 18' Tripp Angler CC, similiar to a maritime for those who aren't familiar. I'm looking to do two things, first provide storage for a fully rigged fly rod under the gunwale, safely and securely and don't want the reel to get banged up either - is this even a possibility or am I kidding myself? Second, for those with CC's, where's the best spot to mount vertical rod holders? The grab rail on the CC prevents me from mounting on either side of the console - - I can mount on the front of the console but do not want to loose seating. Any thoughts, suggestions, products or considerations would be appreciated.

I have rod holders mounted on the side of the console. It's one of those multi racks and it clears the grab rails. It does make it harder to pass by on that side so I keep the other side clear .
