moose Hair

I was given a large piece of moose hide. Has anyone used moose hair for flys?.. thanks doc of the bay

I've used it in an elk hair caddis and as a replacement for deer spinning hair. Depends which part of the moose it is from. Most often I've seen patterns calling for Moose Mane which is the long hairs that I think run down their throat to brisket. Deer, Elk, Moose & caribou all have hollow hairs so they float well. The texture of the hair, which is determined by age of the animal as well as where it is located on the body, will determine how it should be used..
