early season stripers yet?

Anyone doing anything w/ the bass up in Little Neck yet? Got some nice new clousers and 1/2 & 1/2's hot off the vise and I'm dying to get 'em wet. I figure it can't be too far off now....

They've been there the last 2 weeks now 5-8 pounders and your using the right fly 1/2 and 1/2 bounce it off the bottom.

RE: early season stripers yet?

Hey all-

I visited LNB quite frequently this time last year and did fairly well. As you both alluded to, clousers and 1/2 & 1/2 did the trick.

Sjkflyroder, we you fishing from a boat or shore? I ask b/c I am shorebound!

A half & half is a fly that is 1/2 clouser minnow and 1/2 lefty's deceiver. The saddle hackle tail and bucktail collar come from the deceiver. The head of the fly is tied clouser style w/ dumbbell eyes and bucktail wing & throat. It's basically a clouser w/ added bulk.

Luyen-

Pray tell...how was the fishing? I may head out there this weekend if I can manage to get to the flyshop and pick up a new line.

RE: early season stripers yet?

Went out with Capt. Ralph Burtis last Sunday, 3/25. Nice day, but pretty stiff NNW winds. Found fish all over the finder from Jamaica Bay to Little Neck, but couldn't get them to eat a fly. But they're there! I suspect any moment now, they'll be on the bite.
