Stripers under attack...

Stripers under attack....
Hi All-
As most of you know I'm sure- that Amendment 6 of the Striped bass plan was passed and the commercial guys managed to slip a 43% increase in on their end. Which equates to about a million pounds of dead stripers. With that disgusting display by ASMFC they showed they are in bed with commercial interest and don't care one bit about what the public and largest use sector of these fish (recreational anglers) think! Now to top it off they voted to open the EEZ zone to the commercial take of Stripers. Massachusetts is the ones who have been pushing for this. Also Mass. has changed their rec. regulations to two fish (one at 28" and one over40")the only reason they did this was to appease you rec guys in the state so you allow them to continue to push their commercial quotas. Mass. is pushing to really hurt the Striped Bass population (don't be fouled guys - big fish are in decline and the measures just taken will make things worse). Are we going to allow this to happen until the only thing to catch is 20"-26"? fish because that's what the fishery is being managed for. Well Stripers Forever is a new group that's soul purpose is to make Striped Bass a gamefish (it is the only answer). It was started up by the likes of guys like Brad Burns, Duncan Barnes and Ed Mitchell, it's a free group to join and they are going over the heads of ASMFC to make things happen. But they need to hear from guys who want to add their names to the lists of rec. anglers who want to see commercial quotas stop. I'll keep you posted on the web page coming up soon and you can reach the group to join at bigbass@maine.rr.com ...... Think about it guys the commercial guys won't stop until they collapse the fishery again, history has proved it.

That's a real shame. Why do they always do things like this? You would think they know nothing about how the fishery works. I'd rather they allow two fish 28-38" and no fish over 38".

The commercial guys really pulled a fast one here.
