Phoenix in February

I'll be in Phoenix February 7-13. It's kind of a long drive to the ocean from there, but does anyone have any fresh water FFing info for the area?

RE: Phoenix in February

Im a 30 year AZ native so can help u a little bit. Im from Tucson down the road but depending on what species your after you shouldn't have to travel too far. Largemouth bass fishing in the Salt River chain of lakes is pretty dang good. Pleasant/Roosevelt are both good lakes. Crappie fishing usually starts picking up about that time for they come into the shallows to spawn. San Carlos near Globe was the hot spot when I lived there. Trout fishing. Believe it or not you will have some close by. They put stockers in the salt river below one of the dams..(can't remember which one). Also one of the most beautiful places on earth which is Oak Creek in Sedona has wild browns. It is a small stream and you will have to explore. The water is crystal clear and the fish spook very easily. If you want some world class trophy trout fishing there is no better than Lees Ferry at the headwaters of the Grand Canyon below Lake Powell. Lees Ferry would be the farthest drive at about 5 hours north of Phoenix. Oak Creek would be hour and a half and the lakes within an hour....Good luck!!...Jeff

RE: Phoenix in February

Just want to second the Lee's Ferry run. I went 6 years ago and the fishing has fabulous a sure cure for cabin fever. The tiny town of Vermillion Cliffs has all you need...good steak place and a brew pub. The drill is simple..fish hard, play hard, go home. I know there has been an intentional flushing of the river system as directed by the Department of the Interior. I don't know the condition of the current fishery. More info at www.leesferry.com
