NW dump corner.. and frustration

Pulled into Montauk with the dock boyz telling us they have no power, and something about a fire in NYC... nobody's cell phone worked, so you can imagine what we thought..
But we could not refuel at Montauk...so we gave up our hotel room and headed for Block hearing they had power and gas.
They did, but no hotel rooms... we slept thurs night on a 31 open intrepid...yuck
Left early am for the nw corner of the dump. thought we would start there hearing some close reports. Temp was 75.5. We didnt really wait too long. We hit a30lb bluein and got him in the boat. WE saw all the mahi too that everybody is talking about so I won't go into that. Thought the bluefin bite would be good, but not so. We had two other hits, a couple misses and lost a good size one, about 50+ or so, (right at the boat...) but they were far from concentrated. Did not see really anything on top. NO bait..Did see some porpoises but no tuna around them. couple whales but nothing to write home about. Did see water temps alittle south of the NW corner reaching 80 degrees and we thought we would find the yellowfin, but no. Some did we didn't. There wasn't much action at the dock either. NOt sure how many boats got out cause Montauk was not pumping gas for a while I think. There were plenty of boats where we werr, but never saw one with a fish on.
Heard better stuff down SE corner of dump but that was a hike for us and we didnt go there. Kept moving around the spot we grabbed the first bluefin... Flat day, very calm. Very nice. Coulda gone all the way south on a day like that.
Had higher expectations, but at least we put one in the boat.
Got a couple bass on the way home. Saw some skippies or somthing at one point, but they dove when we approached.
Thought it was the day to knock em dead, but no avail. still pretty quiet from what we saw, but perhpas we were in the wrong place. don't know. There just was no surface activity to get anything going... And we covered some pretty serious ground over th course of the day. Steaks were nice though this weekend!!!!

Met somebody out there on channel 68, son of a beach I think was the name of his boat.. WE brought him down to the corner where we hooked up, and he managed one fish too. Was happy to help. He reported similar, very sporadic action, through the day. He spent some time on those mini mahis too... very tough to get a decent fillet off those fish.
I guess they tasted good, but really they were tiny.. SHould be a size limit on those fish... Anyway, not a bad day overall.
HOpe others did well out there.

Fished 10 East of you on Friday and found a nice school of fish. Boat 3 releases 3 and broke 3 off. a bunch of skippies and a half dozen mahi. (very small)
we caught all of the fish doing 8.5 kts or better. 9.5 was the fastest. Seemed to like purples and dark blues. went east into the 'star fleet' and did very little till we headed back west. Looking to get out on Friday again. Fun fish on 20s.
