Hurricane Fabian

Well, just I was was getting over being stressed about flies, leaders, spots etc....I now have something else to lose sleep over.

Hurrican Fabian.

Predictions say landfall anywhere from South Florida to North Carolina possible Saturday. My vaca onthe Cape is for the 8th-12th.

How much will this screw up the fishing? Let alone the weather. I know that any kind of tropical storm in the Atlantic causes a big "ripple effect" all over the place.

All of the predictions are exactly that but looking at the situation...what do you guys think will happen to the fising on the Cape for a week to 10 days from now?

thanks...and still hoping to land a schoolie.

Nothing better

Epic striper and bluefishing if we get the leftovers of a hurricane. Wait till its blowing 30; stand back 20 yards from the water and cast at the 2nd wave....

The bait will either school-up in the bays and sheltered areas or go deep until the turmoil is over. Just my opinion I have no factual knowledge to back it.

Lbac is serious. A good onshore blow and the fish will go bananas in the surf. That's the good news. The bad news is you can get swept off your feet and into the drink before you know it.

In 1991, post-Hurricane Bob, the fishing along the south side of the Cape was FANTASTIC.

Let's keep an eye on Fabian -- which Accuweather termed a "monster" yesterday -- and hope hurricane season doesn't materialize in New England this year. Dramatic as they may be, they cause huge damage and require months of clean-up.

Question Fabian

Where did you see the report of Fabian hitting Fla to N.Carolina??.Looking at the tracking map it appears to be heading straight to Nantucket wher I am.Hopefully it will swing to the east and out to sea.

As of 1615 Monday from Accuweather:

Quote:
As of 10 a.m. EDT Hurricane Fabian was located near 18.9 north and 56.8 west, or about 335 miles east-northeast of Barbuda in the northern Leeward Islands. It is moving to the west at 12 mph, and a gradual turn to the west-northwest is expected over the next 24 hours. Fabian has sustained winds of near 140 mph, and it is a powerful category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Fabian will be a big surf producer for Puerto Rico and the islands of the northeastern Caribbean. The system will be midway between Bermuda and Hispaniola Thursday, and it appears more and more that the system will steer north and east of the United States East Coast by this weekend due to a large-scale trough developing over the eastern United States. Fabian can still kick up "gnarly" waves for eastern surfers this weekend.

back (i believe) in 2000, a tropical storm hit here in new england and i fished the day before, the day of, and the day after its passage down on the stone pier in woodshole and caught hardtails everyday blind casting-if you went down to look to see if could spot surface action, you were out of luck. that storm, however, was later in the season than fabian and the hardtails (all albies by the way) had already taken up residence around that area, which they have yet to do on a consistant basis so far this year.

CC Bay was filled w/ huge blues and bass right on the shore for about a week after Bob hit in the early 90s. The best shore fishing I've ever seen. I know where i'll be if Fabian comes round.

Thankfully youre right. Looks like the Cape wont be affected that much. Lets just hope the forcasters are actually right this time.
