Old Mullet Fly

I always figure if you find a lure while fishing you can learn something from it. If the line is broke off, the lure either got hung up and lost are it was broke off by a fish. Or someone got ticked off and threw it away .Well I found this fly washed up in the bank Saturday.I don't tie flies yet but plan on starting soon.I have caught many a fish on live mullet and have been looking for a good mullet imitation. When I saw this fly laying on a clump of weed I fiest thought it was a mullet. After a second glance I realized it was a fly and picked it up.It is in bad shape and has ane eye missing on the other side.It has the tail tied to mimic a fish and has a dark back, light belly, and some blueish green material throughout it giving it the mullet color. Whoever was using it planed on hanging a nice one. The tippet , loop knot looks like at least 30# test. If I ever get to tieing flies i believe i will tie up a few of these. maybe with a little red on the nose to imitate an oxygen starved , weak mullet.Maybe make it a little longer and have the tail fan out a little past the tie off .

Close up
