Flyline Backing ?

I am setting me up a fly rig for the surf.My reel is a 10/11 wt and is supposed to hold 220 yards of 30# backing.I ordered a spool(250yd ) of dacron backing. It looks like well rope. Big and flat.I went ahead and spooled up the whole thing just to see how it looked. It almost completely filled the reel. The only immediate alternative I have is 45# Gudebrod Super G backing. It is about half the dia. of the other backing.I can probably get 300 yards of this stuff on my reel.
Would there be any reason NOT to use this backing on my reel?
Question #2.
What leaders do I use( size, length, etc. ) for fishing the surf and jetties?
Fishing for anything from bull reds, Jacks to Tarpon.

I would have to say that the 30# stuff is adequate. It's certainly strong enough. Fishing for the big tarpon in Florida my TLD-20 is loaded with 30# mono and I have no problem landing the 125# tarpon.

Leaders at the jetty? Probably something pretty stout, never know when you will snag a shark or something else teethy. I've never actually done that type of fishing but have prepared myself for it. Consulted with a flyshop and they recommended a fine SS braided wire that is coated with a plastic. Kinda hard to tie knots but after practice you get pretty good at it. Bet'cha the flyshop down at P.I. has the stuff. If all else fails, try the universal glue......... baling wire......that stuff has held Mother Texas together for 167 years.

Thats the first time I ever heard that!

Game, I use 20lb mono on my 8/9 reel, so 30 on your 10/11 will work fine. I use bone fish/tarpon leader. If you are worried about bite off's (barracuda) tie on a piece of 40-50 lb florocarbon tipit.
