Galveston Island State Park

Spent the weekend at GISP, but I didn't break out the 8 wt. until the crowd started to thin out on Sunday. Not much to brag about. First off, I left my line basket at the house, so I had to do a little more false casting that I like to. The water was sandy and slightly choppy. I lost a black on black clouser to a spanish mackerel (?) and that was it for Sunday. Monday morning the Gulf was like a mirror, the surf was calm, but the water was still dirty. I fished from the second bar and started with a black clouser (I didn't have any wire to rig it, so I added a short section of 40# Hard Mason). I proceeded to lose it and a brown / copper rattle rouser. I switched to a chart. banger and had a couple of blow ups, but no hookups. Just past the third bar, I could see a school of rain minnows and something working it, which I never could get a good look at. What ever it was never got real aggressive toward the bait, it would just kind of swim through it. It was a really subdued feed. Any how, it was well past my casting range and I didn't feel like swimming to the last bar. I had a great time even though I got shut out.
PS: The surf casters (and there were quite a few of them) didn't do any better, some gafftops, whiting and a couple of stingrays.
