Night time on the Third Coast....
Had to make a run down to the place in Rockport (TX) for our annual board meeting last weekend. After putting the masses to bed with their tummies full of beef tenderloin, lemon chicken, pork loin and all the trimmings, I put the Ride in the water for some late night paddling.
In the north and the west you I had a great light show put on by mother nature, but they weren't moving in my direction so off I went to hit the lights and piers. The end result, lot's of little fish and in bed around midnight. I would say the average size of the speckled trout I was catching was 12 in. After catching around 30, and not one even close to legal, I started back. The big thrill of the evening was, while casting around a green lite, I had a nice flounder come up and over the light after the fly, momentarily blocking out the light and giving me a nice rush. When I got it to the boat, it turned out to be about 2 lbs., nice size for tonights bill o' fare. All in all, a fun night. When it was all over and done with, I ended the night with 50+ speckled trout with only 2 legal (15"+), 2 flounder and one red lost at the yak. All the fish were caught on chart./white clousers tied on "true" circle hooks, size 4. (Don't remember the number, but they are light wire non-offset Mustad - to be posted on the fly tying board later) About 1 am the first (semi) blue norther came rolling in with winds about 25kts., killing any chances of fishing Sunday.
I think that the size should begin to increase as the water temperature drops. I'll let you know, because I plan on being. there and I will let you know. 'til then.......
