Shiners & Ice near the Canal?

Where do you get sm/med shiners near the canal (bourne, wareham, etc) also has anyone been out on the local ice? Herring pond is finally all covered (yesterday) but I want to hit a small pond (2 acres) that holds a ton of bass. Just currious about the thickness of ice in the area and if it's worth taking a look yet.
