Broodstock salmon in the Merrimack, NH

Good morning,

After considerable work to get an non-resident fishing liscense and salmon tag, I was frustrated to hear from a NH friend while we were fishing the Merrimack in Franklin, that they stopped the broodstock breeder program. Funny how Concord would still sell me a salmon tag. liscense and tag 63 $
I am fed up with politics in Montpelier,vt, but I thought I could count on NH to keep the fishing programs up to snuff.

Emailed Gene B from "On the Water mag", but have not herd back. Anyones opinions or thoughts on the subject??

Sbass.
Was pretty upset to read your post  , so I just called NH Fish & Game.
The program is still on for this year, although the Federal Government are the ones that are thinking about dicontinuing it. The stocking will happen this year after the high water in the Merrimack goes down to fishable levels. The numbers to be stocked are not available until after the stocking takes place.

I've been a supporter since the programs inception and buy a stamp every year, even if I don't get out to fish them. Here is a link that you might want to visit http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Fish...inic_May04.pdf I have been at this program in the past and it is very imformative. You can also voice your feelings there and help keep this only Atlantic Salmon fishery in the U.S. alive.

Thumbs up Better late than never!

Broodstock Atlantic salmon fishermen should be aware of the fact that the long delayed stocking of these fish has been approved and will start this week. Check out the Merrimack River and portions of the Pemigewasset that are part of this program.

NH Fish and Game says most of the fish will go into the river in the Fall when the water temps are back down enough for the fish to stick around. Right now they will turn and head for the ocean in an instant.

Sounds like we should be ready for the fall as it should be good!
