Dream On

Fellow Contender “Dream On’: I bet you and your woman and I won’ live to see another day like we saw last Wed. Every time I looked over your rod was bent. I quit at 3:00 ‘cause my arm hurt. Isn’t it nice to have the whole sea almost to oneself? And how cool were those pilot whales and sheerwaters! What fly were you using? I was using a brownish, short sand eel. Took me an hour to figure it out. Finally, I saw a striper chase one down. I was amazed how big it was.

BTW, I had gotten up at 2:30 a.m. and was moving slow and not thinking real straight at the ramp last Wed. After I pulled out and got under way I realized there was only one “Jerry” who would: 1. fish stripers; 2. rake little necks; 3. be enough of a gentleman not to say a word to the “family circus” who took over the middle of the ramp for 20 minutes, and then dragged the prop on the asphalt. Jerry K, right? We both had dark glasses and hats. Last time I saw you was at Lacky Crossing on the Ware River when you were catching rainbows on corn. Glad there are still a few guys like you around. Good fishing and God be with you.

I'm not sure what type of boat you were in Perch but I did see Dream On a bunch of times while I was on the Cape last week. That looked like a sweet ride. Friday, Saturday and Monday we were in my C-Hawk 220 with a t-top and the rest of the week in my buddy's Mako 211. We were also into a ton of fish every day. They seemed to like anything that looked like a sand eel that was dark olive over white. I won't be back on the Cape until next summer but wish you the best of luck the rest of this season.
