Orlando Fishing

Hi
I am going to college this fall down in the Orlando area and I was wondering if there was any places where I would be able to Fly Fish from the beaches in that area. I would like to fish for any Saltwater species whether its snook and redfish or maybe some spanish mackeral and false albacore would run some beaches. Anything would be fun.
If you could let me known if there are any opportunities like that and where I could do it would be appreciated.
Thank You

East of Orlando

There is a lot of good surf fishing about 1 hours drive East.

I could try to find some old fishing logs of trips I have
taken to Melbourne and Ft.Pierce areas....Titusville is also
a good spot as is Hutchinsons Island.

Search around there are lots of web sites about the area
north and south of Cape Canaveral....

Indian River Lagoon and Mosquito Lagoon are two of the best places for flats Redfish! No boat, no problem if you like wading. And they are about an hour away from Orlando.

Get a good county (Brevard) map. the roads leading to the north part of IRL and Mosquito Lagoon are dirt or gravel (the good places.)

Good Luck

P.S. Watch for stingrays...they are plentyful.

John Kumiski has written a book that is very informative about fishing Florida saltwater. It’s title is “Flyrodding Florida Salt". It tells you where to wade or fish from a boat, and is pretty descriptive about how to get to each place.

There is a great fly fishing club down that way called, " Back Country Fly Fishers." They meet in Melbourne around the third Wednesday of every month.

You can e-mail the president, Ken Welch at: kenndawn@netzero.net

Orlando is about an hour from any salt water so you will need a car. As stated there are many options for wading flats for reds up that way. If you have a place to store a kayak at school I think it would greatly expand your fishing options.
