I wish I could join you. Barring a storm or a monsoon, it should be a great time to be there. Last year they were jumping tarpon off the jetties into late October, and the specks and reds should be strong. My wife and I used to go down each year over the Columbus Day holiday and we always did well with the big schools of bull reds.
I hope you have a good trip, AC

I'll be in CA until 12 Sep but the Wife and I were planning a trip to So Padre for our anniversary around the 28-30th. We should get together for some fishing. Shoot me an email if you have any advice on hotels in So Padre.

I am considering going down there ~23rd-26th? for some bird hunting. Certainly I will want x drag my scooter x Pt. Mansfield to visit a few of my honey-holes.

I'm not a big bird hunter, but I'm pretty dedicated to sight casting for Reds. I've seen a couple around Rockport these last weeks but not quite skilled enough to pole the boat and cast at the same time.

thankfully i live within 15 miles of SPI and my friends and i do a lot of wade fishing. if that is your taste drop by rio java in port isabel between 9:30 and 10:00Am and we can plan the next day or a least give you some advice. due to my accident i fish a big rod and have lost most of my right hand so i am not hard to spot. larry at the shop is also a good source.

SPI report
I have been down near SPI a little more then a week now. The fishing started off great. Caught a couple of nice sized snook, mackeral, ladyfish and snapper off the jetties. In the morning huge schools of ladyfish invade the surf and you can get one on nearly every cast near the first gut. most of them are pretty small. Got one red in the bay and spooked a few others. We went out with a guide but the water levels were so high we did not see any fish.

Have you hit the jetties for tarpon? I had a report from last weekend of several fish hooked. Enjoy your trip, Tight Lines, AC

Tarpon
I have yet to see a Tarpon this trip. Since Ivan came back intot he gulf the waves have been so high that you would slammed at the end of the jetties. Hopefully, the water will calm down soon.
