Vineyard ? Nantucket Sound advice needed

Having fished CCB and Stellwagen for two years now, I would like to venture into the Sound for some variety. I have a HS 202DC and can launch from anywhere with a decent ramp.

Any advice appreciated (I don't fly fish yet)

Good luck to all!

Do some searches for launches in Mashpee/Cotuit/Falmouth. There is a great one in Bourne, but it's a bit of a run to MV. Depending on how far you want to trailer and what waters you want to fish, there are a couple good launches near Harwichport.

Once in the water work the south Cape and MV shorelines this time of year. Albies and Bonito around!!! The beaches and fast moving water spots offer some great opportunities.

Mashpee Neck ramp into Popponesset

Great River river ramp into Waquoit (mashpee rotary to Great Neck rd to Great Oak rd etc)
Child River ramp off rt 28 Falmouth into Eel pond
Green Pond ramp Falmouth (get there early not a huge amount of parking)

I have the 212CC and easy ramps to launch out of are:

Saquatucket in Harwich to fish Monomoy and Nantucket Sound, $8 fee and its an easy ride out to the area unless there are strong SW winds then it is sporting.

Green Pond, ditto what Bob says watch the drop at the end of the ramp it has ruined more than one trailer. Short ride to Vineyard Sound.

There is a new ramp in Falmouth off road next to Eastman's plenty of parking ramp is new and nice, plenty of parking for trailers. Have only been there on weekdays and it wasn't crowded. Shorter ride to Vineyard Sound.

I personally didn't like the Great River Ramp since there is no dock to tie up to while you get your trailer and vehicle. Child River is ok but a slightly longer run on the river before your in the Sound.

Take Ray's advice and fish the South shore if no luck there try Hedge fence and off State beach for Bonito and Albies also. Then there is also middle ground to try for Blues and Stripers this time of year. Get Eldridges Book to figure the tides running on the rips makes all the differance.

SW winds on the south side make it more of a challenge than the bay when there is a strong blow.

Kevin.
