Question Point Judith

It seems that this area would be protected somewhat from a North wind, yet it appears South County was seeing some pretty big stuff this weekend.

Tomorrow the marine forecast is calling for 4 to 6 ft waves in Block Island Sound, but only winds of 5 to 10 kt. out of the north.

Does anyone know which direction these waves are coming from? Do you think fishing from a boat tomorrow would be any fun at all?

I would be interested in anyone's thoughts.

You're right about the south-facing shores being protected, but I understand there's been a big offshore storm creating the wave action we're seeing, not the wind.

I like to steer clear of Pt Judith in a big swell; too shallow and too scary in a boat. That's just me though; I'm sure plenty of others don't mind.

Though not as south-facing as Pt Judith, the Narragansett web cam can give you a good idea about swells down here:

There used to be another one on the web site of a south county beach restaurant, but I don't remember which one.

Unfortunately, the Warmwinds webcam is too far up the shore to show what's happening at the point. Yesterday, the swells from the southeast were breaking over the middle wall.

The other webcam was the Joyce Family Pub at Carpenter's Bar. It got zapped by a lightning strike or power surge and they never replaced it. Too bad.

I fished the South County Watch Hill area this morning and afternoon and the waves are only a beach break, in the boat there was hardly any notice of waves. If you strayed in close then you got a little ride but if you stayed out from the beach break it was very comfortable and fishable. There were fish all over the place and the blitz was definitely in full swing today. No big fish in attendance but lots of fish. Bass and Blues also saw some Albies around the Pine Island area of Eastern CT. I caught fish until I got tired and bored then went looking for bigger fish which were seemingly absent???? Very few guy's on the beach and today would have been a great day to be on the beach as the fish were right in the wash to about a mile off the beach, everybody had fish.
