Sanibel Flyfishing

In the first part of June I will visit again Sanibel Island and I would be very grateful for some special informations:
1. Is there any water in Blind Pass?
2. Is there a way to fish Redfish Pass from the shore without staying at South Sea Plantations?
3. Are there any Redfish in Tarpon Bay at that time of the year; in which area should I look for them?
4. I heard about wadefishing in Ding Darling along the Wildlife Drive near the observation tower, however the only I found there on my last visit was knee deep, colored water and a 6 ft aligator; any suggestions?
5. For timing my trip, I could choose between the first week (form May, 29) or the second week (from the 6th) of June, any recommendations?
If there are any flyfisher who have booked a guide and want to share the trip with me, please let me know!

RE: Sanibel Flyfishing

I fish Sanibel every year in June. The fishing is great!
1)Blind Pass is sand
2)rent a boat or take a water taxi and go to north cap (West side is great poon, snook and trout fishing the east is great red fishing)it is as good as Redfish Pass (I like it better)
3)it is hit or miss I think in Tarpon bay I think (i dont know it that well);
4)Ding Darling? good luck. I have never fished it.
5)any of the 2 weeks you are going will be great!

I am going the long weekend the end of may and I am going for a week mid June. Poon fishing!! and big snook! (catch and release only);

Drop me an e-mail if you want more info.
Cheers
Rob

RE: Sanibel Flyfishing

I will be down there May 5-8.
I'm glad to hear we've timed it right!
I'm fishing with two different guides, but I also have a day to poke around. We've rented a motorized canoe to cruise around tarpon bay and ding darling refuge.

Do you think North Captiva would be better? Is it possible to rent a boat that can be fly fished from up by Captiva?

Any other tips would be great too! I was thinking I might try to find some lit docks I could throw at at night (and from shore). Got any suggestions.

So stoked!!!
