Where to go in September?

I am planning a honeymoon in early September. I have the blessing of a future wife that supports,(tollerates) my fishing addiction. I planned on going to Belize since I have friends in Belize, but the weather being a factor, (Hurricane Season) this might not be the best Idea.

Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions for tropical flats fishing without the weather risks.

Thanks in advance

RE: Where to go in September?

Hmmm.....you know the Florida Keys have some pretty damn good fly fishing in September, but there would be some weather risk there too.

I actually took my honeymoon in Northern Florida -- now I don't know if you can sell that to a spouse, we were offered a beautiful old Southern house so we went for it -- but you would have some really high caliber redfish fishing up there. At that time of year, and you would really have to schedule it right, you could experience their "high tide" fishery. The reds go up into the grass when the tide gets high enough. Those in the know stalk them there.

You could check with John Bottko of Salty Feather in Jacksonville (this is a Reel-Time sponsor) to plan the exact right time.

Beyond that, well you might have to go a super long distance like Christmas Island or something.

RE: Where to go in September?

A friend said the best idea would be to go below the equator to avoid the risk of hurricane.
Since I was born in FLA I am not drawn to spend a honeymoon there, especially since the last time I visited family I was graced by the presence of hurricane (George?), that was in Sept too. I attempted to fish for FW Bass from an airboat in rain that was so heavy I could have been using scuba.
To be honest I would be hapiest chasing Bones And Fat alberts with the Weekapaug crew in RI, but the misses has a different opinion.

Thanks for the advice
