Advice on Buzzard' Bay or South Cape for late April

I'm attending an environmental conference at the Mass Maritime Academy in Buzzard's Bay during the last weekend in April. I plan to bring along the fly rod and a 13' inflatable to put to use before and after the conference. Any advice on places to try and flies to use either along Buzzard's Bay or the south Cape? I normally don't make it down till at least Memorial Day, but cabin fever being what it is, I thought I might give it a try.

Water will still be a bit cold, specially the way this winter is going, But you might take a map book and look for inner harbors and esturaires. You would be near Buttermilk bay and might find something way up inside.

Go trout fishing instead. Stripers extremely iffy then. Good trout ponds all over the cape.

The areas that time of year are very time/tide dependant. Should be good small schoolie action that time though. Drop me an email when your coming and maybe we can hook up for a couple hours of casting at micros. No boat needed most of the time. THe fishing is generally good for the last 2 hours of the drop so its not allot of fishing time, but it can be fun and productive. I try to get out for a few hours a day that time of year, finding people to fish with in the colds not always easy.

It's early but there are bass in the Westport River at that time. We've had good days past April 15th...mostly smaller fish but good numbers. Take Route 88 towards Westport. Find Hicks Bridge and launch there...boat ramp on far side of the bridge. Fish away from the bridge and down river until you come to the homes with docks on the water off your right side. There will be a rock with deep water around it. Fish with a sinking line and let it sink. Fish will be there. Gold Clouser with gold flash. Let it sink and strip slowly. If that doesn't work, strip faster until you find what turns them on. Good luck. Let me know how you do.

I found some luck just outside the marina close to shore near the docks and rock piles.
