Bird, Baffin. Shamrock
I did a half assed trip. Finally got the boat finished had a few things to work out so not so much fishing.
First of all, I miss Cape Cod, damn was it hot. Started at baffin, water was stained which always reduces my confidence. I got a strike, had a 4 pound trout rise up at rod tip distance out of this fuzzy green stuff. Saw another trout about the same size less than 10 feet away. At least the raised deck is working.
Got waived down by a guy who turned out to be a real trout master. He turned out to be a good person to provide some aid to. Gave me the lowdown on Baffin which was a bit of a mystery and potentially troublesome due to the rocks. I ended up spending more than an hour discussing the big ones. By then it was too hot for me to feel like fishing
He said with big trout 28+ inches is all about slow and stealth, edges and underpressured areas.
Came back that evening and fished into the night but with the low tide, dark and unfamiliar area things weren't clicking.
Left from the causeway to Padre and fished towards east flat Port A looking for clearer water. Water was better not great. Had a shot at some tailing reds but hadn't broken out the fly gear. I'm ready to get back to fly fishing.
I caught one 16 inch trout as the sun rose things seemed to slow down. I was searching for fish with a spoon, and tried all other lures but I'd say the fish weren't real aggressive feedling and fan casting with a fast retrieve wasn't yielding any results.
Finally found some nice flies at that yellow building before the causeway, forget the name, their selection has really improved over the last two years. I do get tired of seeing bonefish flies, standard fare, and micro poppers.
I'm going to take a week in September and figure this year out.
