Marathon - May 17th thru 21st

Gang - headed down to Marathon May 17th for a few days of fishing Florida Bay and the gulf, and maybe a little on the ocean side in the surf. Staying at Sombrero Key. Have a boat rented for the four of us, and going to fish live bait and jigs mostly, but I am taking my 8-wt along. Won't be able to flyfish out of the boat (for fear of hooking someone), but may try flyfishing from beach/ocean side in the late afternoons and evenings when we get off the boat. Does anybody have any tips or advice. I would be happy catching anything, including pompano, trout, jacks, ladyfish, whatever. I don't have the skill to tackle bones, as I am pretty novice. Planning on bringing some clousers, bendbacks, and deceivers with me, and maybe some poppers too. Thanks -- Gary

RE: Marathon - May 17th thru 21st

Hey Gary!

A great place to fish in Marathon is right on
sombrero beach by the bonefish Towers. Wade out and north you'll probably see permit small tarpon. The water is a little on the deeper side and should be fished on the very first of the incomming tide . bonefish are commonly caught there but sighting them while wading could be difficult. you might also want to try Bahia Honda ST. park about 1 1/2 miles over the 7 mile bridge heading south. that is a great place for bones!!

let me know if i could help anymore!!
i live in key largo and fish all the keys!!
